About Me

Do you have the nagging feeling that life could be so much better if you could just get it together?

Hi, I’m Joanne, or Jo to my friends. That nagging feeling? That’s the feeling I’ve had for years. Maybe you have, too. “If I could just demonstrate some willpower, stop eating so much, and exercise more, I’d lose weight and be happy.” “If I could just organize the heck out of my home and schedule, life would flow smoothly and I’d be happy.” “If I could find a career I really loved, work would be easy, I’d make a good living, and I’d be happy.”

Happiness has visited me at moments, but when I consider my life, I don’t feel “happy.” I feel like I want more.

As a working mom of two kids with their own activities, business owner, and wife, I’ve found that it’s not easy to feel like I have enough time for everything that I want in my life. I want to be fit and healthy and stronger. I want to read and bake and cook and watch movies. I want to continue to delve into yoga practice and mindfulness. I want to travel and be a better parent and spend non-yelling time with my kids. I want to strengthen the relationship I have with my husband and cultivate friendships with people who uplift me. I want to listen to music and move my body and feel comfortable in my body. I want to be more confident and grow my business and be a good boss.

I’m sure there’s a lot you want for your life, too.

I started this blog because I wanted to hold myself accountable to living a fit and healthy lifestyle, and I’ve since discovered that when you’re a working mom influenced by the society’s expectations that you should be able to be supermom and have it all, it’s not that easy to know how to get the life you want.

I am obsessed with living a better life. My journey so far has led me to start working with a life coach and from her I have learned that so much of what we do in life has to do with avoiding feelings that we don’t like, like guilt and shame. That is a very different thing than choosing to feel happy and actually feeling happy. I believe that I can develop my self-awareness, cultivate my thoughts and mindset, and lead a happier life.

As a continue to learn about this happiness mindset, I want to share what I’ve found about living life better in my own little corner of the internet, because my hope is that the experiences, links, books, playlists, and recipes that I share can make your life better, too.

A Bit About the Real Me

Jo diamond head about me

I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and live here because I’m from this prairie province, not so much because I love the weather.

I am a dentist now but used to be an accountant.

I am passionate about teeth and oral health and understand that flossing feels tricky to a lot of people.

I love to bake, and I love eating what I bake. My gingersnaps, red velvet cake, and peppermint candy cane brownies are to die for.

I have two kids, a boy and a girl, and I love them beyond words, but they also drive me crazy.

I have been married to my husband since May 1, 1998, and yes, we’re still in love, though in all honesty, our relationship, after 2 kids, 6 years of be going back to dental school, and each of us building a business, could use a little tune-up.

I am a big fan of all things zombie and plan to write a zombie novel one day. The Walking Dead is my reason to get on the stationary bike.

I floss regularly, eat chocolate more often than is healthy for me, and keep getting injured when I run.

I am an introvert and find it energy-draining to have to deal with people, so I shop online whenever possible.

I love buying self help books but often struggle to finish reading them.

I love to travel and would really like to live part-time in Hawaii, because it’s so beautiful and WARM.

I hope the thoughts I share in my blog add to YOUR happier life.

Very cool! I started blogging this year for the same reason – to keep me accountable. I also have a 6 year old and am on a journey to pass the CA bar exam and become a licensed attorney (so I am with you on the mom/academics/training thing).

And I saw on your recent post that you are training for a half marathon. I just started my training to run my first half marathon in October.

Good luck with your training and all of your multitasking! 🙂
